A Nighttime Parade of Light, Fantasy, and Tradition
Every September 6, as night falls, the city of Villena transforms into a dazzling stage for one of the festival’s most magical events: La Cabalgata. Known for its theatricality, creativity, and visual spectacle, The Parade is a celebration of imagination, where every comparsa tells its own story with light, choreography, and colour.
Origin and Significance
The parade begins at the intersection of Coronel Selva and San Isidro streets, proceeding along Avenida de la Constitución to Calle Nueva, finishing near Calle El Hilo.
Opening the event is the Laureate Municipal Band of Villena, setting the tone for an unforgettable night and they are followed by the “Regidoras” (Regidor), The Christian Ambassador’s Pageantry and Entourage and the Comparsa de Cristianos.
Then, one by one, the rest of the 14 comparsas, both Moorish and Christian, take to the streets in a display of fantasy, rhythm, and artistic expression.
A Spectacle for the Senses
The Cavalcade is a parade where nighttime lighting, the sound of the bands, dazzling costumes, and the most colourful creations of the comparsas offer a spectacle that thrills both adults and children. It is the perfect parade to let your imagination run wild and see up close the creativity with which each comparsa brings its story to life.
